Episode 14, “Assigning Their Realms.” An educational comic about Japanese mythology showing how Izanagi assigns responsibilities to his three divine children.

Panel 1: Izanagi points his finger and gives each child a realm to govern. He tells Amaterasu to rule Takamagahara (the High Plain of Heaven), Tsukuyomi to rule the Land of Night, and Susanoo to rule the Seas. Symbols of the sun, moonlit sky, and ocean appear above the children to represent their domains. Amaterasu responds, “Yes?” while Susanoo remains silent. A caption explains that Izanagi assigned each of the three children a realm to govern.

Panel 2: Izanagi presents a jeweled necklace to Amaterasu, saying, “Amaterasu, I’ll also give you this necklace!” The necklace sparkles brightly. A small note at the bottom jokingly reads, “Special Treatment.”

Panel 3: Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi faithfully follow their father’s command and rule their respective realms. Amaterasu appears among glowing clouds and sunlight, while Tsukuyomi stands in a dark blue robe beneath moonlight. At the edge of the panel, Susanoo is shown silently with an ellipsis, hinting that he has not yet accepted his role. A caption states that Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi obeyed their father’s command and governed their assigned realms.
The comic depicts the division of authority among the Three Noble Children, emphasizing that Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi accepted their responsibilities while Susanoo’s reaction remains uncertain.

Tsukuyomi

Greetings, everyone.

And farewell.

My name is Tsukuyomi.

With this appearance, I regret to inform you that I shall not be appearing again.

I am the sibling of Amaterasu and Susanoo, two of the most famous and beloved deities in Japanese mythology.

From this point onward, my dear siblings Amaterasu and Susanoo will continue to appear time and again, enjoying many exciting adventures and accomplishments.

As for me, however, this is where my role comes to an end.

I cannot help but wonder whether I shall remain in anyone’s memory at all. It is precisely because of that concern that I have been granted this final appearance.

We three are honored with the grand title of “The Three Noble Children.” It sounds rather impressive, does it not? Yet the reality is that while my siblings continue on, I must take my leave here.

To be perfectly honest, Amaterasu becomes sulky and locks herself away in a cave, while Susanoo gains fame as an unruly troublemaker. And somehow, those two are the popular ones.

Meanwhile, I quietly and diligently perform my duties without causing any trouble whatsoever.

I would like to respectfully ask everyone to reconsider how such individuals are evaluated.

As for Tokura, the creator of this comic, it appears that he has fallen into a creative slump and is currently overwhelmed by a sense of emptiness.

Though, between ourselves, I am not entirely sure how one can dramatically announce a slump when neither the comic nor the website is particularly successful. The number of visitors is, more often than not, very close to zero.

I had suspected something was wrong around Episode 12, “Izanagi Purifies Himself with Water.”

The final illustration, The Three Gods of Suminoe, was, frankly speaking, rather unfortunate.

Should Tokura recover his spirits, I sincerely hope he will one day breathe proper life into those poor deities.

That said, I am far less concerned about Tokura than I am about whether anyone will design merchandise featuring me.

If there should happen to be any Tsukuyomi fans out there, I would be delighted.

Well then…

Farewell, everyone.

Take care.
